Sensory-Friendly Morning
The Essex County Turtle Back Zoo can be an energetic, noisy place full of sensory stimuli, and we know this environment can be overwhelming for some guests. In 2026, we are excited to host a Sensory-Friendly Morning!
Start your day on Saturday, May 2 from 8 – 10am for a modified zoo experience including limited capacity and muted attractions.
Sensory-Friendly Morning is great for people who benefit from visiting the zoo without crowds and other sensitive environmental elements.
During Sensory-Friendly Morning, the Carousel and Train will operate without music and whistles. Music will be off throughout the park. The Gift Shop will be open. NOTE: Some animals may not be in their public viewing spaces.
Essex County Turtle Back Zoo is certified Sensory Inclusive by KultureCity. KultureCity Sensory Bags will be available.
