Behind the Scenes with the Lions

Come see the the Pride of TBZ!

We are excited to share a new Behind the Scenes offering this summer! Come visit one of TBZ’s newest families, and get a unique, up-close animal experience with first-hand knowledge and stories from the Keepers that know them best.

What to Expect:

Join TBZ educators for a behind the scenes experience to remember. You’ll get to see the non-public side of our lion exhibit and have an opportunity to chat with our keepers. Get an exclusive up-close look and meet our Lion Pride: male Demarcus, lioness Makena, and our new energetic cubs, Anga and Kito.

This experience includes special access: see where the pride spends their downtime and learn about the care of these incredible big cats, meet & greet: chat with dedicated keepers who work with the lions every day, and expert insights: discover what it takes to raise lion cubs and the conservation efforts protecting their wild cousins. This tour is available for individuals 13 years and up.

This Behind-the-Scenes Tour is for ages 13 and up only, children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.  All members of the party must purchase a ticket. Photographs are not permitted, except when directed; all attendees will sign a photo waiver prior to entering.

Tickets made be purchased with or without zoo admission. Members may purchase the “program only” option for $100. Non-members must purchase tickets including zoo admission for $120.

This program meets before the zoo is open! Meet outside the Mount building as early as 8:50 AM. This program begins promptly at 9 AM; late arrivals may lose part or all of the program without a refund. Tours will commence regardless of weather, unless cancelled by the zoo due to unsafe conditions for our animals, staff, or guests. If we cancel a tour due to weather we will notify you as soon as possible and will reschedule a date and time. Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions and for walking around the zoo. Tour and Program guests do not enter the exhibits or touch the animals. In some cases, animals will not be in the building during behind the scenes tours.
